Pandemic Lessons

The discussion tackled how home design trends will change following the pandemic.

Speaking for Contempo, Ablanida said the pandemic was a blessing in disguise as it allowed their company to reconfigure its newest project, Ashana Coast Residences.

“Amid uncertainties brought by the pandemic, this much is clear – it is no longer business as usual,” she said.

Ablanida highlighted that the pandemic led them to re-imagine home values and spaces to stay relevant, thrive in practical use because home is no longer just a place to eat, sleep or raise a family but became an instant office, home school, fitness hub, a gardening opportunity to grow your own food.

Stay-At-Home Ready

In light of these realizations, Ablanida named some adjustments that Contempo implemented in their Ashana development so that the residential project will be attuned to a better normal.

“We decided to cultivate community spaces that are not only relevant to the effects of the pandemic but also provide communal fellowship, green areas for an edible garden, venues for outdoor socialization, spiritual retreats, and physical exercises,” said Ablanida.

Ashana Coast Residences is located in the northern town of Metro Cebu. It has two house models Coral and Pearl that banner unique stay-at-home features such as a sanitation nook, isolation room, fitness area, home office, and a home garden.

Home and Tech

Another point discussed in the panel was on the relationship of home and technology today.

All panelists have agreed that there is a need to adapt to technology, but that they also emphasized there are other factors beyond devices and app that will make a home smart-ready.

“Technology has transformed lives but it has more importantly touched lives,” said Ablanida. “The challenges we faced, the opportunities we seek are all made possible because of technology within the home or community. To embrace its role today means we have to incorporate technology into our property developments.”

Future-proofing homes

The panelists wrapped up their discussion by sharing their ideas on future-proofing homes.

For her part, Ablanida said: “Future-proofing homes will require integration of innovative technology, environment-friendly materials and responsible design and development. Most especially at this time of great uncertainties where homes are becoming more of a total refuge, homes of the future are envisioned to be self-contained, self-sufficient, safe, secure, sustainable and resilient.”
