Cleft-lip children often experience bullying, low self-esteem, and even difficulty in speech, eating, and other medical conditions.
Driven by the responsibility to support its neighboring community, Contempo Property Holdings Inc. (CPHI) partnered with Operation Smile to provide free surgery and accessible follow-up treatments for cleft-lip patients.
“Every child deserves to smile. There are plenty of children in Cebu and across the Philippines suffering from speech impediment, eating disorders, and even bullying because of cleft lip and cleft palate. Surgery nowadays is very expensive, and it is part of our responsibility as a company to share our resources to these children, so we can improve their condition and give them a brighter hope for their future,” said President and CEO Beverly Dayanan.
Operation Smile received 1,500,000 PHP for the construction of the Cebu Comprehensive Cleft Center which will serve as a global hub for international Operation Smile volunteers to share their expertise with the local community.
The Comprehensive Cleft Center is on the sixth floor of Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC). It will cater to approximately 3,000 cleft patients yearly. The facility includes counseling and support, surgical care, dental care, and feeding and nutrition care services.
The center is currently in its construction phase. It will be completed by the last quarter of 2023.
Operation Smile is a global medical charity with licensed medical volunteers in over 80 countries. The organization aims to improve the health and lives of children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities. They do this by offering free surgical procedures and post-care services.
